Good riding to moor edge Medium Hills, good riding around edge of moor, Poor ground to North West

AVOID:

 Poor ground to north west ,un-rideable bridle paths: south of Shipley Bridge 678 623 and Huntington warren 660 660.Avon Dam road from South Brent is busy in summer with tourists cars and the tarmac lane up to the Dam gets busy with cyclists and children. avoid Steep ground around River Avon below Dam except where shown to cross by the Dam and north of Dockwell Ridge

TAKE CARE:

Bala Brook Crossing difficult to find, from north look for Red Brook coming down and crossing is below, from South go around rocks 670 628. Can be a difficult crossing in flood and will necessitate a long road detour of about 5 miles via ball gate and along county lanes.

C Circular route, mostly easy to follow (see above).Route Z
Zeal Tor Tramway follows a steady incline all the way up to Red Lake but is not easy to follow in bad visibility.

Points of interest

Lots of good riding and interesting spots. Avon Dam road is pretty and has toilets and Ice cream van in summer.

Access / Parking:

By the side of the South Brent to Skerraton road at701 632 known locally as Heathstone Head is parking for a few trailers or lorries and good moor access via bridle path and has reasonable access from A38 at Marley Head.

LOST?

Find the Moor Edge and hug wall until you find bridleway off; If on west side of River Avon avoid steep ground and go south to Shipley Bridge.
