EXCITING RIDING, V. deep valleys High Hills, Great views, Deep valleys, easy access & good riding on edge, harder further up, old Rattlebrook works railway track. AVOID: Army range when firing, Going too far west into moor, TAKE CARE Crossing busy main road on route C and other parts of busy road. Soft and boggy east of great links Tor SX 555 865 ROUTES C Circular Route is mostly easy to follow, nearly all on clearly shown green tracks over good ground. It has taken the route north of the reservoir as this is easiest to follow. A spur of takes about 45mins to Bridestowe to Little Bidlake Farm with excellent Horse B &B South of the reservoir- was way though newtake , gates locked (july 2011)believe in dicussion with DNPA, no other easy way known across Okement river to S.E.. Route R – Rattlebrook is an interesting alternative in clear visibility, the southern part from Rattlebrook Hill to great links Tor is quite soft in wet weather. Other info needed in this area POINTS OF INTEREST Bray Tor with Widgery cross is a landmark for miles around, Old railway track up to Rattlebrook disused peat works Impressive great Noddern Hill and deep valley. Meldon reservoir Lake viaduct534 890 Views from all the high ground Pubs – Bearslake Inn thatched old inn with tie rails & field SX 529 889 Easy access from parking areas Sourton Ice Works (oblong pits terraced on hillside with a leat cut to bring water from a spring) this ice factory lasted just 10years. Lake viaduct SX 534 890 wonderful Victorian architecture Granite way, regrettably only cycle/walking way along old railway line. ACCESS/PARKING Easy road access from main A386 Parking up lane behind Dartmoor Inn 525 852 & Prewley Moor 545 910 LOST? Generally go WEST
