A Recommended Design for a Tie RailIf your local pub or favorite place has got a poor one then suggest to the owner that it is improved or ask if you can do it yourself. But be aware that of the hazards that can occur. Some children & adults have no knowledge of horses and will come too close to pet, feed or worse. Some drivers will park next, in front or nearly on top of you. Other riders may turn up and tie up next to you. Best bet is to tie up where you can keep a constant eye on them or leave one of your party with the horses at all times. We are trying to encourage the provision of horse tie hooks in various obvious and odd places in the future. Even the National Park HQ has a fabulous car park but no horse tie rail (come on its sustainable transport……..). An inconspicuous old iron ring here and there would be most useful. It is rather sad that it actually almost impossible to go shopping with a horse, quite a change from years ago. If you ask at The Coach & Horses Pub where the stables are you get very strange responses…… Obvious places generally are trees( be careful not to damage them ) fences, take care not to get feet stuck in them or you may need wire cutters .Trig points (those triangular concrete posts ,usually on tops of hills)can be useful if you have enough baler cord to make a loop right around as can small boulders. We have tried screw in the ground dog ties but with limited success. Cowboys in the westerns just seem to drop the reins and the horse just waits for hours… One loose horse is not usually a problem as it will stay near its friends, but two loose ones can be and very quickly…I know and have walked many miles home to find them. |
